Makanju advocated for the establishment of an international body to ensure the safety of powerful technology and the equitable distribution of its benefits.
OpenAI’s Expansion in India
In a parallel development, OpenAI is reportedly looking to expand its presence in India by bringing on board Rishi Jaitly, former VP of Elon Musk’s X, as a senior advisor. While the news is not officially confirmed by OpenAI, Jaitly is said to be guiding the company in navigating India’s AI policy and regulatory landscape. This move aligns with OpenAI’s broader strategy and follows Altman’s visit to India in June.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurating the GPAI Summit, is set to engage with international delegates on pertinent AI issues. As part of the event, the Indian government, represented by MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is actively working on a multi-country, consensus-based declaration on AI.
